HISTORY

The BMW V12 LM98 is the prototype of the german manufacturer that participated in the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1999. BMW in collaboration with Williams designed this car, which debuted at Le Mans in 1998, the main features were the uncovered cockpit and aerodynamics with very simple lines to minimize the impact on travel. Hiro Matsushita, Hiroki Katoh and Akihiko Nakaya at the wheel of the BMW V12 LM98 n.19 did not finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1999 a due of the broke transmission after have covered two hundred twenty-three laps.

The race was won by Pierluigi Martini, Yannik Dalmas, Joachim Winkelhock with the BMW V12 LMR n.15, second Ukyo Katayama, Toshio Suzuki, Kelichi Tsuchiya with the Toyota GT-One n.3 while third Emanuele Pirro, Frank Biella, Didier Theys with the Audi R8R n.8.
After the unlucky season of 1998, and the redemption of the following year, BMW decided to retire.
