HISTORY

The Brabham – BMW turbo BT52 n.5, and the winning car of the Formula 1 World Championship in 1983. After the success of 1981 with the Brabham BT49C, the team led by Bernie Ecclestone went through a year of transition that led to the replacement of the supplier of the engine, Ecclestone reached the agreement with the BMW, at the time one of the most powerful of the turbo engines. The chassis of the new car was designed by Gordon Murray, who after Barnard with McLaren, began using the carbon fiber in the bodywork.

Nelson Piquet with the Brabham – BMW turbo BT52 n.5 won the Formula 1 World Championship in 1983, for the Brazilian driver was the second world title. The season was a duel between the Brazilian driver, Alain Prost’s Renault RE40 and Rene Arnoux’s Ferrari 126C3. The World Cup had its epilogue only at the last Grand Prix in South Africa, where the Brabham driver finished third at the finish and surpassed by two points in the Prost standings, who retired in mid-race due to the turbo breaking. Piquet in season won three Grand Prix: Brazil, Italy and Europe.
