HISTORY

The Ford GT40 MKII n.2 is the winning car of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. The American manufacturer after receiving the refusal by Enzo Ferrari, to buy the Italian car company, tried in every way to challenge the same on the track, concentrating the commitment especially in endurance races in which Ferrari dominated since 1960. In 1964 the Ford GT40 made its debut but reliability and speed were not yet at the level of Italian cars. In 1966 he presented the MK II version with the 7-liter engine.

Amon and McLaren won the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours with the Ford GT40 MKII n.2, the Detroit cars arrived in parade conquering the whole podium, according to the Ford GT40 MKII n.1 of Miles and Hulme, while the third the Ford GT40 n.5 of Bucknum and Hutcherson with a detachment of twelve laps. The Ferrari suffered a heavy defeat after those of Daytona and Sebring always in favor of Ford both with driving Miles and Ruby.
