The Lotus – Ford Cosworth 72 with engine is a car designed by Colin Chapman and Maurice Philippe. The British car had structural innovations, such as radiators on the sides of the car and no longer on the nose, the brakes mounted inside the car and not on the wheels and the air intake for the engine mounted above the rider’s head.
With the driving Jochen Rindt the won the Lotus – Ford Cosworth 72 F1 World Championship in 1970. The Austrian rider could not celebrate the title conquest due to the fatal accident during the races GP of Italy. He won four consecutive races, Holland, France, Great Britain and Germany, and this made him maintain a points advantage over Jackie Ickx, which he could not reach with the Ferrari 312B, thanks to the victory of his substitute Emerson Fittipaldi in the GP of the States United which took away important points for the Belgian rider’s comeback.
