HISTORY

The Lotus – Ford Cosworth 81 is a car that participated in the Formula 1 World Championship in 1980. The English team after the victory of the world in 1978 with the Lotus 79, failed to repeat itself the following year with the Lotus 80. Colin Chapman and Martin Ogilvie planned for the new season a much more traditional car that exploited the ground effect, but the excessive downforce created many bumps on the track. The car was sponsored with the Essex brand. Mario Andretti with the Lotus – Ford Cosworth 81 n.11 arrived twentieth in the 1980 Formula 1 World Championship, with one point in season.

The American obtained the best result in the Grand Prix of USA East at Watkins Glen circuit with a sixth place.
