HISTORY

The Porsche 917 K n.22 is the winning car of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1971. After the first victory obtained in 1970, the Stuttgart manufacturer remained the favorite also for the new season, moreover with the change of regulation foreseen for the 1972 that would have eliminated the sports cars with a displacement of 5000 cc, Ferrari decided to stop the development of the 512, entrusting it to the management of private teams

Helmut Marko and Gijs van Lennep won the 1971 Le Mans 24 Hours with the Porsche 917 K n.22, the Martin Racing Team’s car proved more reliable than the fast long-tailored Porsche 917 LH’s that with Vic Elford reached a speed of 362 km/h. In second place the Porsche 917 n.19 of John Wyer’s team with drivers Richard Attwood and Herbert Muller, distanced by one lap, while in third place the Ferrari 512 M n.12 of the North American Racing Team with drivers Sam Posey and Tony Adamowicz.
