HISTORY

The Porsche 962C is the winning car of the 24 Hours of Le Mans of 1986. The car designed by Norbert Singer replaced the winning Porsche 956, complied with the regulations of the Sport Prototype Championship, in which the engine derived from the 956 was used, and the regulations of the IMSA Championship with the use of a 3200 cc boxer engine.

The German Porsche AG Rothmans team with Derek Bell, Hans Joachim Stuck, Al Holbert at the wheel of the Porsche 962C n.1 winner the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1986. The official Porsche Team returned to victory after two years in which the Joest Racing private team won. In second place came the 962C n.17 of Team Brun Motorsport of Oscar Larrauri, Jesus Pareja and Joel Gohuier with a gap of 8 laps, while in third position the Porsche 956B n.8 of George Follmer, John Morton and Kenper Miller.
The race was conditioned by the accident of the Porsche 962C n.10 of the Porsche Kremer Racing team that cost the life of Jo Gartner.
