HISTORY

The Ford GT40 MKII is a car that participated at the 24 hours of Le Mans 1965. The American manufacturer after receiving the refusal by Enzo Ferrari, to buy the Italian car company, tried in every way to challenge the same on the track, concentrating the commitment especially in endurance races in which Ferrari dominated since 1960.

The American Shelby American Inc. team with Ken Miles and Bruce McLaren at the wheel of the Ford GT40 MKII n.1 did not finish in the 24 hours of Le Mans 1965 due to broken gearbox after forty-five laps. The race won by Ferrari 275 LM n.21 with Masten Gregory, Jochen Rindt, in second place the Ferrari 275 LM n.26 with Pierre Dumay, Gustave ‘Taf’ Gosselin, while in third position the Ferrari 275 GTB n.24 with Willy Mairesse, ‘Beurlys’ Jean Blaton.
