HISTORY

The Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 is a car that participated at the 24 Hours of Le Mans of 1931. The Italian manufacturer entrusted the engineer Vittorio Jano with the project for a new inline eight-cylinder supercharged engine, which proved to be one of the most successful . With the Bentley retreat, the favorites for the win were the Alfa Romeo, Mercedes, the Bugatti and the American Stutz and Chrysler.

The Italian S.A. Alfa Romeo team with Geoffredo Zehender and Attilio Marinoni at the wheel of the Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 n.14 did not finish the 24 hours of Le Mans 1931, due to accident after ninety-nine laps.
The race started with the suitors very close, but with the passing of the hours and with the very hot temperature began the first withdrawals, in particular that of the Bugatti that despite the excellent speed were afflicted by tire problems that forced the French cars to a forced withdrawal. The English Lord Howe team with Earl Howe and Henry Birkin at the wheel of the Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 n.16 winner the race, for the Italian manufacturer was the first success. In second place came the Mercedes-Benz SSK n.1 driven by Boris Ivanowski and Henry Stoffel with a gap of seven laps, while in third place the Talbot AV105 n.11 of Tim Rose-Richards and Arthur Saunders-Davies with a gap of eleven laps.
