HISTORY

The Aston Martin DBR1 is a car that participated at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959. The car was designed by Ted Cutting in 1956, in the first years of the race had many difficulties in reliability, but in 1959 the British manufacturer obtained the his revenge.

The British David Brown Racing team with Maurice Trintignant and Paul Frere at the wheel of the Aston Martin DBR1 n.6 finished second in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a gap of one lap to winner. The race won by Aston Martin DBR1 n.5 of Carroll Shelby and Roy Salvadori, while in third place the Ferrari 250 GT n.11 of Jean Blaton, Leon Dernier of the team Equipe Nationale Belge with a gap of twentysix laps. The two Aston Martin DBR1 were the only cars in the S-3000 category to finish the race, the Aston by Moss and Fairman, the Ferraris and the Jaguars had reliability problems.
At the end of the season, the British manufacturer also won the Protorepi Sport World Championship thanks to victories in the 1000 km of the Nurburgring and in Le Mans.
