HISTORY

The Bugatti 57G Tank is a car that participated at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1937. In 1934, Bugatti introduced the Type 57 road car, which was a great success among the customers. In 1936 the Jean Bugatti combined the chassis with a completely closed body known as Tank, to compete in car races and win the victory at Le Mans.

The French Roger labric team with Roger Labric, Pierre Veyron at the wheel of Bugatti 57G Tank n.1 did not finish the 24 hours of Le Mans 1937 due broken tank after one hundred thirty laps. The race won by twin car Bugatti 57G Tank n.2 with Jean Pierre Wimille and Robert Benoist, for the French manufacturer was the first success.

In the race the numerous French teams gave life to a close fight, conditioned by the accident that caused the death of two pilots, the English Pat Fairfield and the French Rene Kippeurt. In second place came the Delahaye 135CS n.14 led by Paul and Mongin with a gap of seven laps, while in third place the Delahaye 135CS n.10 of Dreyfus and Stoffel with a gap of twelve laps.
