JORDAN – MUGEN HONDA 199 n.8
The Jordan – Mugen Honda 199 n.8 is a car that took part in the Formula 1 World Championship in 1999. The Irish team, after having won the first victory with the Jordan 198 in 1998, appeared in the new season as an outsider for the victory.
Designed by engineer Mike Gascoigne, the new model featured many aerodynamic innovations. The German driver Frentzen proved decisive for the season.
Heinz-Harald Frentzen with the Jordan – Mugen Honda 199 n.8 came third in the Formula 1 World Championship in 1999 with fifty-four points.
The German driver’s world championship was very consistent with the success of the two victories in France and Italy.
Thanks to the victory at Monza and the simultaneous withdrawal of the world leader Hakkinen, Frentzen moved to ten points from the top of the standings with three races left from the end of the season. Unfortunately the last races did not bring good results, and the world championship was won by the Finn Mika Hakkinen with the McLaren Mercedes MP4/14.
During the season Frentzen obtained the Pole Position in the European Grand Prix, while the Jordan team, with the contribution of the Scottish driver Damon Hill, placed third in the constructors’ championship.
