HISTORY

The Lola T280 – Cosworth is a sports car that took part in the 1972 24 Hours of Le Mans. Lola boss Eric Broadley in 1972 commissioned designer Bob Marston in collaboration with young Patrick Head and John Barnard to build a frame to match the reliable 3-liter Ford Cosworth DFV engine.

Jo Bonnier and Gijs Van Lennep at the helm of the Lola T280 – Cosworth n.8 participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1972, without stopping it.
The English manufacturer for the French race entrusted two copies to the Ecurie Bonnier. The Swedish driver started from the fifth position and during the race he showed the excellent performance of the sports car. Unfortunately during the early hours of the morning while he was firmly in third position, Bonnier dubbed but an error caused an accident that was fatal for the Swede. The race was won by Matra Simca MS670 n.15 of Henry Pescarolo and Graham Hill.
