McLAREN – HONDA MP4/4 n.12
The McLaren Honda MP4/4 n.12 is among the most successful cars of Formula 1, having won 15 of the 16 Grand Prix which took part. The MP4/4 dominates the 1988 Formula 1 world championship. It was designed by Gordon Murray and Steve Nichols. 1988 is the last year of the turbocharged engines and the British team is able to take the strongest engine in one stroke: Honda, and the emerging driver Ayrton Senna, who together with the French driver Alain Prost had no rivals during the year.
After an exciting duel to win the world championship was Ayrton Senna, for the brazilian driver he was the first of his three world titles. The mathematics of the title arrived in the GP of Japan, where the Brazilian phenomenon gave evidence to a crazy race. Although starting from the pole position missed the start and found himself in the middle of the group, from there began a fantastic comeback that ended with the victory of the Grand Prix, nothing could Prost. The combination of Senna and McLaren Honda MP4/4 was extraordinary, in that season Senna won eight grand prizes, which could be ten without too much safety errors by the Brazilian in Monaco and Monza.
