Description

McLAREN – HONDA MP4/6 n.2

HISTORY

The McLaren – Honda MP4/6 n.2 is the car with which the McLaren team participated in the 1991 F1 World Championship.

The MP4/6 was designed by Neil Oatley, compared to the McLaren MP4/5B, the biggest difference was the new Honda 12 engine cylinders, which replaced the 10-cylinder used by McLaren in previous seasons. Despite the advent of the semi-automatic transmission at the wheel the McLaren – Honda MP4/6 had a six speed manual transmission, while Ferrari and Williams used the semi-automatic gearbox and was the last car with manual transmission and 12-cylinder engine to win a world title; while the aerodynamics was rather conventional.

Gerhard Berger with the McLaren – Honda MP4/6 n.2 arrived fourth in the Formula 1 World Champion 1991 with one victory in season in the Grand Prix of Japan. The Japanese race focused on the world title duel between Senna with the McLaren MP4/6 and Mansell with the Williams FW14, with the withdrawal of the English driver the Brazilian driver mathematically won the drivers’ title and left the victory to the Austrian teammate.
