The Tyrrell – Ford Cosworth 006 is a car that participated at the Formula 1 World Championship 1973. After the 1971 success with the Tyrrell 003, the team led by Ken Tyrrell in 1972 failed to counter the Lotus 72D. For the new season the designer Derek Gardner designed a very conventional car equipped with the reliable American engine.
The English Elf Team Tyrrell with Jackie Stewart at the wheel of the Tyrrell – Ford Cosworth 006 n.5 won the Formula 1 World Championship in 1973, for the Scottish driver was the third and last world title.
The season had an initial duel between Stewart and Emerson Fittipaldi with the Lotus, but the constancy of the Scotsman with twelve points arrivals on fifteen races, led him to the world title with three races in advance. During the season Stewart won five Grand Prix: South Africa, Belgium, Monaco, Holland, and Germany. During the trials of the last race on the Watkins Glen circuit, his team-mate Francois Cevert lost his life, the misfortune convinced Stewart to retire from the world of motor racing.
