HISTORY

The Williams – Renault FW19 n.3 is the car that won the Formula One World Championship in 1997. After the world dominated in 1996 with the Williams FW18, the Grove team replaced the world champion Damon Hill with the Heinz driver Harald Frentzen , but suffered the loss of his engineer Adrian Newey who signed a contract with McLaren. The project of the FW19 was assisted by Newey and Patrick Head.

Jacques Villeneuve at the wheel of Williams – Renault FW19 n.3 won the Formula 1 World Championship in 1997, obtaining his first and only driver’s title. The Canadian driver fought the whole season with Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari F310B. The World Championship was decided at the last grand prix at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit, the Williams driver, with a disadvantage in the standings, was forced to get ahead of the German. A few laps from the end Villeneuve overtook Schumacher and the German tried to buffer the Canadian but was forced to retire, while Villeneuve crossed the line in third position winning the title.
