RENAULT RE20 n.16
The Renault RE20 n.16 is a single-seater that participated in the Formula 1 World Championship in 1980. After obtaining the first victory in Formula 1 with the Renault RS10 in Dijon with Jabouille, the French manufacturer with the new project entrusted to Michel Tetu and Francois Castaing, tried to be the true outsider of the championship.
Rene Arnoux at the wheel of the Renault RE20 n.16 arrived sixth in the 1980 Formula 1 World Championship, achieving two victories in the season. The start of the World Championship was good thanks to two victories in the Grand Prix of Brazil and South Africa, but the French engine during the year blamed problems that forced Arnoux to retire several times, thus being unable to fight for the title won at the end of the season by Alan Jone on the Williams FW07B. The Renault RE20 won a third victory with the other driver of the team Jean-Pierre Jabouille in Austria. With three victories, six pole positions and two fastest laps the French manufacturer came fourth in the constructors’ championship.
